President Donald Trump has taken a short break from demonising the free press, by moving his cross-hairs onto the recent protests and demonstrations that have been erupting across the US since the President’s inauguration.
The president has dismissed, that the protests against his presidency and the demonstrations at congressional town hall meetings across the country, as concocted by his presidential rivals. However, he now has an alleged kingpin and mastermind. Drum roll……..Barack Obama.
In an interview on Monday with the Fox News channel, Trump said that he believes that the former president is behind the protests. “I think that President Obama is behind it because his people certainly are behind it,” Trump said. “In terms of him being behind things, that’s politics. It will probably continue.”
Donald Trump made his accusations from the White House, during an interview with “Fox & Friends” anchors Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade and Aisnley Earhardt. The entire interview is due to air on Tuesday morning, before Trump’s formal address to a joint session of Congress, but Fox released a snippet of his remarks about Obama, possibly trying to instigate an uproar with the President’s supporters.
It would be safe to assume, that the Fox anchors were coaxing the president to agree and contribute to their own remarks on Obama and the protests, as during the interview, one of the anchor trio told Trump that Obama’s political group, Organising for Action, the successor group to Obama’s campaigns, was helping to organise activists to demonstrate, and asked the president whether he suspected Obama himself was behind the protests. “I think he is behind it,” Trump said. “I also think it’s politics. That’s the way it is.”
A spokesman for Obama did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Last week, Trump criticised the town hall demonstrators on Twitter, saying that they were “so-called angry crowds” and that the demonstrations were “planned out by liberal activists.”
At a time that the US has become increasingly divided, now is the time for President Trump to refrain from his social media “rants”, focus on policy and concentrate on bringing the country back together. The question is, when will the president become “Presidential” and stop the constant tirades on his rivals?
